50th Reunion (April 20th and 21st 2012)
News / Notes
News / Notes
The Planning Committee was comprised of almost 30 classmates plus a number of spouses. Eleanor Simpson-Banks and Jonnie Holley-Douglas were the point people but the sucess of the reunion was a team accomplishment.
The following teachers attended the Saturday night event at Doublegate. Hopefully you had a chance to touch base with one or more.
Kermit and DeLaine Henderson
Martha Dye
Graham and Betty Lowe
Ida Fowler (widow of Bob Fowler)
Here is the prayer that Charles Ruehl was unable to give Saturday night.
Gracious and Eternal God, let us pause to give thanks for each person gathered here whom we have known across the years. We as a class have been richly blessed for our formative years spent here in Albany. We give thanks for our teachers, our parents, our places of worship, and the loving atmosphere that allowed us to stretch our wings and strive in our own ways to make a difference in our world. We are also keenly aware of those of our class who have gone on before us into your presence. We share in the grief of their absence for they, in their own ways touched and blessed us. We are the beneficiaries of their influence in life. Let us also remember those of our class who for various reasons were unable to be with us this week-end. And now O God let us ask your blessings on the time we share and the food that we are about to eat. In your name we pray. AMEN.
Classmates Comments
Had a great time! It was nice seeing everyone. I don’t have an email list of the planning committee, but would like to convey my congratulations to all for a job well done. I’m not sure the planning committee can do better than this one. This reunion will be a hard act to follow, but a 70th birthday sounds great. Thanks for a really nice weekend. Steve Heidt
It was a terrific reunion. Please pass on my gratitude, and my wife's, to all on the planning committee. Every activity seemed to be perfectly planned and executed. I'm sure no small effort went into making this a wonderful and memorable weekend. Thanks to all very, very much. Norman Estep
Just a short note from my friend Midge Nesbitt. She had a ball and said that she had not been to affair that fancy in her entire life. Tom King
Kermit and DeLaine Henderson said that they had a really great time. Food was good and they enjoyed the Tribal Treasures Showcase, Silent Auction, and In Memoriam boards/information.
Martha Dye told a couple of people that she was having a great time. While she was looking at the In Memoriam boards, she couldn’t believe some of the students who had passed away.
Lots of good responses from classmates about the reunion. I don't think it could have turned out any better. Thanks for all your hard work to keep us on track! Virginia Johnson
Our “Fairfield Inn” group talked right up until checkout time and would have kept going if we weren’t afraid of being thrown out. As I headed up the road to Atlanta I was thinking well, the reunion is over now. But then I put the reunion CD in my car’s player and it was like the reunion kept on going – almost all the way to Atlanta. (And then I started it over again!) I want to extend my thanks and congratulations to the reunion committee for a job well done! That was just a great weekend from arrival at the Shackleford House till I turned off the CD when I pulled in my driveway. Your efforts gave all of us a wonderful weekend. It was so much fun to discover that even as some (most?) of us have put on a few pounds, lost some hair, or started sagging in a few places, nevertheless the people we liked so much “back in the day” have not changed in the ways that really count and remain as close as ever. My heartfelt thanks to you all. Jay Pryor
I want to thank the reunion team for doing such a great job this week-end. It was a splendid event and we had a wonderful time. We look forward to the 70th birthday party and, "if the Lord's willing and the creek don't rise", will be there with our dancing shoes on. Please give my best and my thanks to all on the reunion committee. Bobby Briggs
Charles, thank you and everyone involved for a perfect reunion! The time and hard work was obvious and just want you all to know how very much it was appreciated.
